Dog Vaccines

Every dog owner knows how expensive a trip to the vet can be. There is nothing to say that veterinarians are not trustworthy but Keep in mind that veterinarians make money by giving vaccinations to your pets so as owners you must be aware of what is being given to your canine friends. Ensure the vaccine is what your dog really needs, know what it's for and how it's given. Disregarding this may lead to over vaccinations that can cause your dog to suffer their whole life or even death.

What does my Dog really need

As puppies grow older some of the natural immunity they get from their mother's milk wares off. Your puppy must get their first shot when they are five to six weeks old and continue to get their puppy shots over a period of up to about several weeks. Once the puppy shots are done, they switch over to booster shots that continue to provide protection agaisnt rabies, canine distemper, canine parvovirus, and infectious canine hepatis. These vaccines protect your dog against diseases that are fatal, extremely difficult to treat, or that can be transmissible to humans and are generally given once a year.

Is your dog being over Vaccinated

When you recieve a new dog, be sure you check up on which vaccine they've already gotton. Over vaccination is dangerous to your dog's health. If your dog suffers from any drug reaction this may be caused from the vaccination. Side effects may not show up for weeks or months or may happen immediately. Symptoms can be fever, stiffness, sore joints, inflammation, jaundice, and central and pheripheral nervous system disorders, susceptibility to infections, and liver failure may follow. These symptoms can last for the duration of their lives or even kill them so be aware of what types of vaccinations they are getting, the dosages, and if it is neccessary.

How you can Prevent Over Vaccination

Your ve is the best source of advice on which shots your dog should receive, however, most veterinarians like to push a combination vaccine. Shots should be given in single doess so make sure to request that your veterinarian does not give a combo vaccine. If your vet is tries to push vaccines or treatments tha you feel are not needed--then find another vet.

In conclusion, there are core vaccines that should be given to your dog no matter what in order to protect them against diseases that can harm or kill them. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian about which shots are needed for your dog but make sure to be aware to know what type of vaccine their getting, how much of it, and how it's given, and how many times it needs to be given to prevent over vaccination. Your dog is a part of the family so make sure they get the proper care.
