Having a dog does not mean you are house bound. With some careful planning, travellng with your dog could be quite enjoyable and simple.

1. Some dogs like to lay or sit in the car, so it would be good idea to have a blanket or even a dog hammock to protect your car from accidents your dog may have. Also it will provide more comfort for you pet. You can also buy a dog car seat or dog seat belt to keep your dog safe while on your trip.

2. Give you dog time to rest from the trip. Take a break from driving every couple of hours. Give his and your legs some exercise, by taking a walk to get that circulation flowing. Be sure to to give him some water or food. Water from different places tastes and may smell differently, so try to bring water from home so that your dog will drink it.

3. Try to have your dog start the trip off with an empty stomach, By not feeding him the morning before you leave on your trip will prevent your dog from getting carsick.

4. Take your pet on short trips in the car, this will get your dog accustomed to it. Take to places that your dog enjoys, go to the dog park, or fast food drive through, or on friendly visits with family or friends. This will get you dog believing that car rides are quite enjoyable and fun. 5. Take your dog kennel or crate. That way you can leave you dog momentarily in the car if you need to venture somewhere that dogs are not allowed.

Trips will become easier as your dog becomes used to them. Your first trip out my prove to be the most difficult as your dog may believe his is never coming back home. Remember by making the first few trips enjoyable, the easier it will be for your future trips will be for you and your dog.
